Papers, 1822-1837.

This collection of papers consists mostly of professional correspondence to Greene which discusses various legal matters mostly in his official capacity as U.S. District Attorney for R.I. Approximately half of the correspondence was written by Daniel Webster (1782-1852). The papers also include a fire insurance policy, 1828, and a presidential document, 1830, appointing Greene U.S. District Attorney for Rhode Island. The collection also includes correspondence, 1836-1837, between Cornelius Vanderbilt (1794-1877) of New York City and John Wilkes Richmond (1775-1857) of Providence, R.I., relating to Vanderbilt's steamboat business and the Rhode Island legislature. This correspondence is apparently from Greene's legal files. There are also two warrants, 1837, for the arrest of Vanderbilt.
